A box plot is another way to present quantitative data.  The box shows median, upper and lower values and upper and lower quartiles.  The dots at each end are the minimum and maximum values, and the line in the middle of the box is the median and the edges of the box are the quartiles.

Stem and leaf plot



A stem and leaf plot is used to organize quantitative data.  For example. the 2 under the stem column represents 20 and the 2 under the leaf column represent 2 so that makes 22. 

Bivariate choropleth maps



Bivariate Choropleth maps display two variables on a map combining two different sets of graphic symbols or shadings. This map shows Vote percentage difference in 2004 as related to Voter Turnout.  Different colors are used for the two candidates and different shades of those colors are used to show how the different percentages.  Faces are used to show voter turnout as a percent of voting age population.

Isopach

This Isopach map shows the Tephra deposits of the Rio Blanco Crater.  The red contours are Tephra deposits that are more than 20 meters thick while the whitish contours are tephra that are greater than 20 cm but less than 50 cm thick.   It also has contours of elevation for the crater.  Isopach maps measure thickness.

This picture is of a doppler radar map of a storm cell that produced a tornado.  This "hook" shape is a warning sign that a tornado will develop.  Radars emit a bursts of energy, and if it strikes an object like rain, snow, or hail the energy is scattered in all directions and a small fraction is scattered back to the radar. The reflected signal is analyzed by computers for the strength of the returned pulse.
